Vandoren SL4 Optimum Mouthpiece for Soprano Saxophone

New product

Vandoren's Optimum series is the favourite of classical music players. The conception of this series was the fruit of research on both external shape (particularly the beak) and sound, in order to meet the needs of today’s saxophone players. A little more open than the SL3, the SL4 rapidly became a standard with saxophonists.

More info

The SL4 Optimum has a medium-short facing.

Each mouthpiece is polished to a brilliant finish. The final adjustment of the facing is done by staged diamond cutting tools. The tolerances of 4/10,000 of an inch are so small that, to maintain precision, the table is not polished. Each mouthpiece is hand finished at the baffle, walls, and tip rail. Master craftsmen finish and adjust each mouthpiece to surpass the most critical examinations of professional musicians. The mouthpieces are polished one last time (except the facing area) to eliminate marks and imperfections. The Vandoren name is then stamped in gold on the mouthpiece along with the model number.

Vandoren recommends using the following reeds:

- Vandoren Traditional : 3 -> 4

- Vandoren V12 : 3 -> 4

- Vandoren Java Red : 3.5 -> 4

- Vandoren Java Green : 3.5 -> 4

- Vandoren V16 : 3.5 -> 4

- Vandoren ZZ : 3.5 -> 4
