Alexander Superial DC Soprano Saxophone Reed Strength 3, Box of 10

New product

Created by Tom Alexander in the early 1990's, the original "Alexander Superial" was put into production after months of testing and development. This reed’s design aimed to produce a warm, resonant "buzz", good projection, even scale throughout the registers, and a wide dynamic range. The specially designed blade contour featuring a softer tip provides instant response and tonal balance throughout the registers. Made from the finest of wild grown Var cane, each and every reed table is checked under light for flatness and hand adjusted if necessary.

The DC (or double-cut) has a slightly harder tip and more wood in the heart and sides than Superial and therefore produces a more solid tonal core, enhanced projection and power, and a little darker harmonic timbre, but still has the edge and authority needed in soloing or lead work.

More info

Soprano Saxophone Reed

The Alexander Superial DC Soprano Saxophone reed was placed on the market in 1995. Following its discontinuation, the need gradually arose for an alternative. In response, Tom Alexander developed a reed for saxophonists that captured the style and tonal quality of the original.

An original cut

A series of tests was carries out on the same reeds as those used for the manufacture of the simple Superial. The DC reed differed in both its cut and its tone. :

  • A more durable tip
  • A more dense heart and sides

Significant tonal capabilities

Thanks to this cut, the Superial DC Soprano Saxophone reed is distinguished by :

  • A tonic resonance
  • A strong projection
  • A dark harmonic timbre

The Alexander Superial DC Soprano Saxophone reed is particularly suitable for solo saxophonists, lead musicians, big bands, stage bands or, more generally, all saxophonists whose playing requires the power to push the reed to the limits of its dynamic capabilities, all while maintaining a good performance.

« Revival » the 50’s

The Alexander Superial DC Soprano Saxophone reed recalls the sounds of the 50’s that inspired and influenced Tom Alexander, such as « Blue Note », « Miles », « Trane » and « Wayne ». This was also his favourite reed.
