Alexander Superial DC Tenor Saxophone Reed Strength 2.5, Box of 5

New product

Created by Tom Alexander in the early 1990's, the original "Alexander Superial" was put into production after months of testing and development. This reed’s design aimed to produce a warm, resonant "buzz", good projection, even scale throughout the registers, and a wide dynamic range. The specially designed blade contour featuring a softer tip provides instant response and tonal balance throughout the registers. Made from the finest of wild grown Var cane, each and every reed table is checked under light for flatness and hand adjusted if necessary.

The DC (or double-cut) has a slightly harder tip and more wood in the heart and sides than Superial and therefore produces a more solid tonal core, enhanced projection and power, and a little darker harmonic timbre, but still has the edge and authority needed in soloing or lead work.

More info

Incredible sound capacities

A solid tonal core
  • A darker harmonic timbre

  • The powerful sound of the DC is particularly suitable for big band, stage band or marching reed players. Since its introduction in 1995, the "DC" seems to be especially favoured by professionals looking for a more powerful sound and want to push the reed to the limits of its dynamic capabilities, while still retaining an even balance from top to bottom.

    Fifties revival

The DC's tonal concept is reminiscent of the saxophonists from the 1950’s. Think "Blue Note”, “Miles”, "Trane" and "Wayne" eras.
