Created by Tom Alexander in the early 1990's, the original "Alexander Superial" was put into production after months of testing and development. This reed’s design aimed to produce a warm, resonant "buzz", good projection, even scale throughout the registers, and a wide dynamic range. The specially designed blade contour featuring a softer tip provides instant response and tonal balance throughout the registers. Made from the finest of wild grown Var cane, each and every reed table is checked under light for flatness and hand adjusted if necessary.

More info

An original design

The combination of a new design influenced by traditional reed making concepts (and therefore in essence "time proven"), and the highest grade of cane, became born as the original Alexander Superial with its yellow labeled tin.

The Alexander Superial is in line with the tonal concept of the "American" style single cut reeds, but with a more developed heart and rear vamp area, and the "spring" and natural resilience needed to produce a really big sound. Alexander Reeds ran an extensive testing program with various professionals including renowned veteran mouthpiece maker Ralph Morgan and his crew. After all the testing confirmed the good results of the final prototype, Alexander Reeds had finally come up with a reed worthy of manufacture.

The Alexander Superial has warm tonalities, great projection and a wide dynamic range. It is also characterised by its durability thanks to Alexander Reeds' top-quality cane.

The specially designed blade contour featuring a softer tip provides instant response and tonal balance throughout the registers. It is also very quick to warm up.
