The Select Jazz line is milled not moulded, from solid rod rubber, using D'Addario's precise computer-controlled mouthpiece-making technology. The result is a mouthpiece with a classic sound and response, with even intonation across the entire range of the saxophone. The inspiration for these mouthpieces was derived from the great vintage mouthpieces of the first half of the 20th century, but with modern precision milling.

D'Addario's state-of-the-art machinery and reed-making process have resulted in unprecedented consistency in today's Select Jazz reeds. Select Jazz reeds feature the thickest spine and blank of D’Addario’s jazz reeds, with a traditional tip shape. The Select Jazz cut offers great projection, focus, and a vibrant sound.
In 2004, Rico was acquired by D'Addario & Co, the world's foremost manufacturer of musical instrument accessories. At Rico, musicians are in charge of quality control, and they carefully monitor the reed-cutting machines adjusting calibration many times daily and randomly test-playing finished reeds from each of the machines. Millions of reeds—all of them—are inspected for imperfections, and only those that pass Rico's rigorous quality-control standards are finally packaged and shipped.
