The D8M alto saxophone mouthpiece is distinguished by its innovative manufacturing technique: the use of machining instead of moulding on an ebonite bar. This phase follows an up-to-date design and choice of materials developed in close collaboration with leading engineers and musicians.

Finally there is digital control phase to perfect and clarify the product. The manufacturing process has no hand finishing.

Rico D'Addario’s Background

In 1928, Frank De Michele was a clarinettist living in the United States. He asks his uncle Joseph Rico, a former seminarian and musician, to help find him reeds that can meet his musical requirements.

He noticed that near his holiday home in the Vars mountains good quality reeds were growing. In honor of his uncle, Frank De Michele, supported by 4 associates, developed his first line of reeds, named "Rico ».

Very quickly his business expanded thanks to his knowledge in the field of engineering that he used to innovate his products, tools and manufacturing techniques.

In addition, Rico is the only manufacturer to grow all of its reeds in its plantations in France and Argentina.
In 2004, Rico broke new ground in its development, following its acquisition by D'Addario, manufacturer of musical accessories.
