Responsive and easy to control in all registers. Like the 5RV, the Lyre Bb clarinet mouthpiece is an excellent choice for the advancing student or for general playing. With a slightly more open tip, the Vandoren Lyre takes a slightly lighter reed, giving the player more flexibility and a more open sound. It also has a longer facing than the 5RV. The difference between ”Profile 88” and Traditional mouthpieces is in the exterior angle of the beak.

Every Vandoren mouthpiece is meticulously quality controlled. Vandoren's reeds exceptional brightness is obtained through the polishing process.
Each mouthpiece is polished to a brilliant finish. The final adjustment of the facing is done by staged diamond cutting tools. The tolerances of 4/10,000 of an inch are so small that, to maintain precision, the table is not polished. Each mouthpiece is hand finished at the baffle, walls, and tip rail. Master craftsmen finish and adjust each mouthpiece to surpass the most critical examinations of professional musicians. The mouthpieces are polished one last time (except the facing area) to eliminate marks and imperfections. The Vandoren name is then stamped in gold on the mouthpiece along with the model number.
